Springhead Trust, a rural centre for creative and sustainable living in North Dorset, is organising Ashscape, a project in celebration of the ash tree.
The centre in Fontmell Magna near Salisbury, hopes to raise awareness of the remarkable roles ash trees have played in the development of society since the Bronze Age and the likely effect of ash dieback disease. A number of events will be open to the public:
- Friday, 13th October, 10.30-4pm, lectures covering the mythology and utility of ash, the effect of ash dieback in hedgerows and the collection of genetic material to fi nd dieback resistant strains of European ash - £30 including buffet lunch.
- Saturday, 14th October, 10.30am-4pm, lectures covering mythology of ash with a storyteller, the medical importance of ash trees and their future role in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and obesity - £30 including buffet lunch.
